Thanks to exhibitions, creative workshops, and the Japanese artists residing in Lithuania, people have more opportunities to get acquainted with traditions of the Japanese art after the restoration of independence in 1990. And this is not only about famous wood engraving, that attracted people‘s attention to Japan for a long time. There are many areas of art introduced in Lithuania including ceramics, sculpture, ink painting, flower art ikebana, Japanese swords, and tea ceremony. Many Lithuanian artists inspired by the principles of east esthetics, introduced the Japanese traditions to their art.

From Čiurlionis to Fluxus

Collections of Japanese art have been saved and exhibited in Lithuania for more than a hundred years. We are pleased that Lithuanian art and culture are known and represented in Japan. Knowledge about Lithuanian art in Japan links to three names, i.e. M. K. Čiurlionis, Fluxus movement, and S. Eidrigevičius. These names are pretty popular among Japanese intellectuals. However, in recent decades more and more opportunities are occurring for other Lithuanian artists, sculptors, designers to represent themselves as ambassadors of our culture.
